Description: Supporting young children in acquiring social skills is important for success in school and in life. Quality learning takes place in the context of relationships. Teachers that support children in learning how to manage conflict, employ guidance strategies, encourage positive peer and teacher-child relationships, and build strong connections with families, lay the foundation for children learning essential life skills. This training focuses on strategies to help teachers facilitate the development of children’s social skills and self-regulation through the use of guidance techniques such as modeling, redirecting, and conflict resolution. Ideas for creating a learning environment that is responsive to children’s emotional needs will be explored. Resources to support young children displaying challenging behavior will be shared.
