Cost: League Members: $500 per person for two full day PD sessions and one half day on-site observation and debrief | Non-Members: $600 per person.

Target Audience: Teachers in year(s) 1-3 of teaching, Interventionists who teach larger groups of students, and anyone who is looking to improve their instructional practices within the classroom


Description: In this series of professional development sessions that includes an on-site observation and instructional coaching session, participants will engage in a variety of effective instructional strategies to practice then implement within the classroom. Research states that instructional strategies need to be practiced over 20 times in order to become an automatic part of instructional practice. This training will provide opportunities for planning and development of teaching routines along with feedback and mentorship in a risk-taking learning environment that supports teachers with a growth mindset. 

Novice Teachers 101 (Wednesday, January 31)

Novice teachers will begin to create an action plan for their own on-going learning. Teachers will bring school-based curriculum to embed instructional strategies into their everyday lesson plans. They will also engage in a variety of interactive instructional strategies that they plan, practice and implement in their classroom. Finally, novice teachers will develop, practice, and create a plan for teaching routines to take place with consistency in their classroom until the next session. Lunch will be provided.

Novice Teachers 102: On-Site Observation and Debrief (this will be scheduled with the participant and take place between the Novice Teacher 101 session and before the Novice Teacher 103 session)
This is the second session in this series and will take place on-site at the school. Novice teachers will be given time during this week to be observed and receive quality feedback on the instructional strategies they have been implementing in the classroom. If the on-site observation is not an option for any reason, the participant will be asked to videotape a lesson and send it in for electronic feedback. This part of the training is highly recommended, but optional for the participant. 


Novice Teachers 103 (Wednesday, March 7)
Participants will reflect and engage in new effective instructional strategies, self-assess their instruction and implementation plan, spend time collaborating with other novice teachers on the development of instructional rituals, practice, and develop partnerships beyond these specific sessions. They will develop their final steps of implementation supporting their instruction through the end of the year and set goals for the following year to continue developing their instructional practices. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made on or before the registration deadline will be refunded in full. Unfortunately, cancellations made after the registration deadline will not be refunded.
