More Information

Kayleen McCabe, Host of Rescue Renovation on the DIY network has partnered with The Career Building Academy (TCBA) to build a home for families of veterans. Kayleen McCabe, a licensed contractor and 2009 Stud Finder winner will be moving to TCBA’s Walsenburg Campus for four months to work with TCBA high school students to build a home for veterans’ families.

TCBA is a vocational charter high school that serves youth who are interested in the trades. Students have the opportunity to participate in automotive, construction, culinary and medical training. TCBA has campuses in Colorado Springs, Peyton, Walsenburg and is opening a campus in Pueblo in the fall of 2015. Students will be eligible to participate from all campus locations.

This project house is being built for military families that have served us by serving our country. With their loved one being placed into the award-winning Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, families will have a warm and welcoming home to come to in the evening. Nestled at the foothills of the Spanish Peaks, family members can come and relax, have a home cooked meal and rest by a cozy fire. McCabe states, “Being able to build a home that helps veterans’ families is a great opportunity for these students and the families. I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
Kayleen will be making daily posts to her Facebook page and Instagram during this process so supporters can follow the project. Kayleen will be interviewing students and documenting the students’ skill development and getting to know them on a more personal level. Students will learn 26 different trade components in building this project home.
Huerfano County has donated a corner lot to build this 3,000-square foot house. The floor plan has a great room, large kitchen, three master suites and plenty of places to relax and enjoy this spacious home and surrounding environment.

The partnership between Huerfano County, Colorado State Veterans Hospital at Walsenburg, Kayleen McCabe and The Career Building Academy demonstrates public, private and governmental entities can collaborate together for the benefit of students and veterans families.
